Did you see Wendy Sharpe’s exhibition “Spellbound” at the NSW Art Gallery earlier this year? You may have even been lucky enough to see her working onsite!
Sharpe was the first female artist to win the Archibald with her self portrait in 1986 and she has won numerous prizes since then and also held over seventy solo exhibitions. She was also appointed as an official war artist by the Australian War Memorial, when she was posted to East Timor in 1999. “Aunty Ann and Ghost on Whitechapel High Street” was created during Sharpe's Artists Residency in London in 1989.
