LLOYD REES (1895-1988)
Lloyd Rees was predominantly a landscape painter who twice won the Wynne Prize for his landscape paintings. Most of Rees's works are preoccupied with depicting the effects of light and emphasis is placed on the harmony between man and nature. He travelled extensively within Australia capturing the natural beauty of this country, from outback ranges, Sydney Harbour and untouched coastlines. Rees worked in various mediums including drawing, printmaking and painting. I am drawn to the colours that Rees has using in this etching and also that the work has a loose style but also includes details such as the man fishing and the wind in the sails of the boat.
