This is a beautiful etching that was used as a book plate in a book of Botanical Species. I bought both etchings in an amazing antique shop filled with all sorts of antiquities including bronze and marble sculptures in Lucca, Tuscany quite some years ago. At the top of the etching there is hand written notes in what in what I believe is either Italian or Latin (sorry I'm not sure) that includes botanical details about the species of plant. When I brought them I was told that they date back to either late 18th or early 19th century. The top edge has a weathered patina where the pages have been turned over the years. Overall it is a beautiful piece bathed in history and charm.
Medium: etching on handmade paper.
Size: 25 x 40cm, frame 42.5 x 57.5cm.
Condition: this artwork is around 200 years old, it has signs of weathering and minor spots of foxing which add to charm and history of the artwork. It has recently been framed using archival materials. Due to its age it should not be hung in direct sunlight.
