George Raftopoulos is predominantly a painter who has developed his own distinctive and unique style of mark making. His use of colour is paired back, he uses free flowing lines along with areas of pattern and detail. Raftopoulos often uses text within his artworks and his trademark includes Greek symbols as well.
He draws on mythology, fables of modern life; integrated with his thoughts, dreams and ideas as inspiration for his art making. Raftopoulos is a story-teller. His paintings are responsive to his observations on the human condition while exploring politics, philosophy and life. Raftopoulos explores the Greek myths, both heroic and romantic while often adding social commentary, and elements of self-examination and reinvention.
George Raftopoulos has exhibited his work extensively over the last two decades at galleries and institutions including: Bega Valley Regional Gallery, the Greek Embassy in Canberra and the Paris Print Biennial.
