Arthur Boyd (1920-1999)
In his early career, Arthur Boyd was a member of the Antipodeans, a Melbourne based group known for their figurative art that included Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, David Boyd, John Brack, Robert Dickerson, John Perceval, and Clifton Pugh. Boyd had a strong social conscience and many of Boyd's artworks include humanitarian themes of love, loss and shame. He settled in Bundanon in 1971 on the Shoalhaven River in New South Wales where many of his landscape paintings were created. Boyd’s home and studio at Bunanon are open to the public and there is also a creative space for artists and the most wonderful contemporary art gallery that is well worth a visit.
