Margaret Olley (1923-2011)
Margaret Olley is regarded as one of Australia’s most important still-life and interior painters. She found inspiration in her home and studio, celebrating the beauty of the everyday objects she collected. Many of her works showcase compositions of fruit and flowers, surrounded by pottery, artwork, and exotic items from her travels. A highly respected figure in Australian art, Olley was also a significant benefactor to public institutions and was honoured with being the sitter for two Archibald Prize-winning portraits.
This beautifully free flowing pastel drawing accentuates the model bottom and is quite a typical pose within a life drawing session. During a life drawing class artists often draw multiple drawings (sometimes several on the same page) throughout the session for different lengths of time to build up and get their eye in for a longer sitting where the artist will then work on a more detailed drawing and often use different mediums such as conte, charcoal or pastel.
Medium: coloured pastel on paper.
Size: 39 x 56cm, frame 53 x 70cm
Condition: this delicate work is in excellent condition and it has been framed with art glass (UV resistant), rag mountboard and other archival materials to preserve the artwork.
